フォトグラファー、グラフィックアーティスト、そして運慶が織りなす
新たな芸術がここに誕生した。
Created for the “Unkei 800th Memorial Special Exhibition”, this work brings to life an unprecedented collaboration. With special permission, photographs of the invaluable Buddhist statues by the master sculptor Unkei, housed at Jorakuji Temple (Kongozan Shorakuin Daimido), are fused with contemporary graphic art.
Spanning over 800 years, this unique project revives history in the present, weaving together the vision of a photographer, a graphic artist, and Unkei himself into a new form of art.

Jorakuji, Kongozan Shorakuin Daimido
Located in Ashina, Yokosuka City, Kanagawa Prefecture, Jorakuji is a Jodo-sect temple founded in the early Kamakura period by Lord Yoshimori Wada and his wife, who commissioned Buddhist sculptures from the master Unkei. The temple enshrines five statues by Unkei—the Amida Triad, Fudo Myo-o, and Bishamonten—all designated as Important Cultural Properties of Japan. Among the eighteen statues nationwide officially attributed to Unkei, Jorakuji uniquely preserves five, making it a site of immense importance in the history of Buddhist art.
With a history spanning over 800 years, the temple continues to thrive as a place of prayer, cultural experience, and learning. Through temple lodging (TEMPLESTAY KAN Kan), visitors can engage deeply with history, culture, and spiritual tradition.
