Overview
京都・妙心寺境内の静かな一角に佇む桂春院は、禅の静けさと日本庭園の美を味わえる隠れた名所です。江戸初期に創建され、枯山水や苔庭など趣の異なる四庭園が四季を彩ります。堂内では精巧な襖絵が寺の芸術的な伝統を伝え、普段は公開されない茶室も特別に拝観できる貴重な機会です。
このツアーでは、桂春院副住職の案内で四つの庭園や伝統的な襖絵を楽しみ、普段は非公開の茶室も特別に見学します。その後、荒嶋師の導きで心身を調える禅の瞑想を実践。瞑想中には特別に調合されたオリジナルの香が焚かれ、その香りに包まれながら深い安らぎを体感いただけます。体験の締めくくりには、この日のために用意された抹茶と和菓子を楽しみ、最後に僧侶との質疑応答の時間もあります。
訪れる方にとって、自分自身を見つめ直し心を整える場となることを願っています。
A Hidden Sanctuary of Zen and Garden Beauty within Myōshin-ji: Keishun-in Temple
Nestled in a quiet corner of the Myōshin-ji temple complex in Kyoto, Keishun-in Temple is a serene retreat where visitors can experience the tranquility of Zen and the refined beauty of Japanese gardens. Established in the early Edo period, the temple features four distinct gardens—including a dry landscape garden and a moss garden—that reflect the changing seasons. Inside the hall, exquisite fusuma (sliding door) paintings showcase the temple’s artistic heritage, and this special program offers a rare opportunity to view the tea room, which is usually closed to the public.
During the tour, guided by the vice head priest of Keishun-in, participants will explore the four gardens, appreciate the traditional fusuma paintings, and enjoy a special viewing of the tea room. The experience continues with a Zen meditation session led by Master Arashima, designed to harmonize body and mind. Surrounded by the fragrance of a specially blended original incense, participants will find deep peace and clarity.
To conclude, enjoy matcha and seasonal Japanese sweets prepared especially for this occasion, followed by a Q&A session with the monk.
This experience is designed to offer visitors a moment of reflection and inner calm—a chance to reconnect with themselves in the stillness of Zen.

Keishun-in Temple (Sub-Temple of Myōshin-ji)
Founded during the Keichō era (1596–1615), Keishun-in Temple is a Zen temple renowned for its Important Cultural Property—the Pine and Plum Trees fusuma paintings by the celebrated ink painter Kano Sansetsu—and its exquisite gardens that embody the spirit of wabi (quiet refinement).
The temple’s four gardens are designated as National Places of Scenic Beauty and Historic Sites.
